1. Florida Gators - Making them #1 until someone knocks them off which could possibly happen against either LSU, Georgia or Florida State......if not.. they are the #1 team in the nation.... but if you ask me... there is one more Florida team that is better than them.
Next Week's Prediction: Florida 42 - Kentucky 14

2. Miami Hurricanes - Three words...."Swagga Is Back!".....The Canes have established themselves as the team to beat in the ACC. Have defeated current Top 25 opponent, Florida State, and past Top 25 ranked Georgia Tech. The Canes toughest games look to be next week at Blacksburg and at home vs. Oklahoma. Canes have capability to run the table.
Next Week's Prediction: Miami 38 - Virginia Tech 24

3. Alabama - Looked like an SEC team against ACC VTech in season opener..... strong, powerful... wear you down. Defense will be key against Arkansas next week or it could be an upset by the Razorbacks or as I call them... "Petrino's Passing Pigs.". With toughest games at Mississippi, LSU at home and at Auburn... if Alabama goes through this schedule undefeated... I believe they will finally beat Florida in the SEC Championship.
Next Week's Prediction: Alabama 48 - Arkansas 38 in a shootout.

4. Mississippi - Just keeping an SEC theme here.... the SEC is truly the best overall conference... and I believe this is the Cinderella for the year. They are getting a lot of press this year... and it doesnt involve a Manning! Thats pretty cool for these Rebels.
Tough test in Columbia next week in first SEC tilt... but I believe that the Rebels will do just fine. With tough future games against Alabama, sleeping passing giant Arkansas, Auburn, a surprising Tennessee team that played Florida close and LSU...if the Rebels were to go undefeated... could be the biggest party in history in the crooked letter state in December.
Next Week's Prediction: Mississippi 31 - South Carolina 24

5. California - Struggled with who to put here... but this team could be the most underrated team in the poll..... with tough games coming up next at Oregon, USC, at UCLA... rival game at Stanford and watch out... at #24 Washington......running back could be key to season. Gonna be a tough game in Eugene next week........

Teams that are close:

Texas - Have not really shown the firepower that I thought they need to be a Top 5 team. Big 12 not as strong as once thought.

Penn State - Close wins to Akron and Syracuse really doesnt do a lot for me. Penn St. if they were really good.. had some swag and let people know it in the past. Either Joe Pat gone soft... or Nittany Lions are knitting somewhere.


If a lot of undefeated go down, this poll will probably change greatly... but just a rare few teams right now that are establishing themselves as Elite teams.

Two teams to me have the capability to run the table.........go undefeated through the entire season... and if they do...it is going to be a BCS Championship Game between Sunshine State rivals...... Florida Gators and the Miami Hurricanes. Right now.. that is my prediction.

I would love for that to happen so much, you don't even know it. What's funny about that is, last year's game in Gainesville is supposed to be part of a home & home series, with the return game for Miami at Landshark to be in 2013.

Word's been out a lot lately that Jeremy Foley, UF's AD, is already trying to discuss a buyout of the return game with UM's AD, Kirby Hocutt. They DO NOT want to come down to Miami and play Miami on their own turf.

If it came down to the BCS Championship--no buyout could happen. There wouldn't be anything to hide behind for UF.

It would be different if the stadium down there was rowdy and such, but its not, its like playing an NFL team that no one cares about lol.

if UF does try and buy out, I guarantee its not because they are scared of an ACC team.

How can you rank Ole Miss, and not Texas?
Same with Penn State. They have had ZERO close games, they've won all their games by three TD's. True, look it up.

Texas wins: 59-20 v ULM; 41-10 v Wyoming; 34-24 v. Texas Tech
Penn State wins: 31-7 v Akron; 28-7 v Syracuse; 31-6 v Temple
Ole Miss wins: 45-14 v Memphis( a lot closer than the score, they scored 4 TDs in the 4th); 52-6 v SE Louisiana.

So to me, those say Texas and Penn State are both above Ole Miss right now; OM has played two cupcakes, Penn State has played three cupcakes, and TExas has two easy wins and a good win

It took FOREVER to schedule that home & home (or home/at-home--I've heard it both ways), and Foley & Meyer wouldn't do it until Shannon took over and it was clear that Miami was on the low part of their cycle as far as talent goes.

Before last year's game, they hadn't agreed to play a regular season game at Miami since 1987. The other times since then and before last year, their matchups were all bowl games.

And now--they're discussing buying out the @Miami portion of the home/at-home agreed upon back in 2006 and played in 2008. Really, they've been discussing it since after the Miami game last year in The Swamp when Miami played them tough for 3 quarters w/Patrick Nix & Robert Marve at the helm and a defense full of Coker Rejects & true freshmen. Nix/Marve are gone and those freshmen keep getting better and the last remnants of Coker's regime are almost totally gone. Recruiting will go on the upswing if this recent success continues, and with that will come better players that may end up out-talenting what Meyer could bring to town. Foley even knows that Meyer may not even be at the helm come 2013 if the NFL or Notre Dame comes calling with a major payday.

I don't think it has anything to do with the Orange Bowl or anything, I just think they don't want to do it even though it's an obvious natural rivalry--it's about them disrespecting Miami more than anything. It doesn't take much to read between the lines as to why they don't want to come down. They lose, it's just as bad/worse than an SEC game. It also takes place most times in front of those vaunted S. Florida HS kids they want to recruit so badly, and they've gotten a little bit of a foothold further south and are afraid to lose that. It's also a thing of, I think, a 'if we don't play them, they can't beat us' type of thing, which is weak.

Cane, I know you are a huge Da U fan, but let's be realistic here.

Florida is the #1 team in the nation, more talent than anyone, with tons of very touted frosh there now. Why in the world would they be afraid to play Miami?

I understand that Miami is on the upswing, and will be better, but UF is the top dog right now, and will be for some time.
Alabama has scheduled ACC teams the last four years, playing FSU, Clemson and VT.
The SEC schools aren't afraid to play the ACC teams, just like the ACC teams arent scared to play SEC teams.

Do you have any proof on any of this, or is it just rumors and conjecture?

To be honest, UF doesn't need to play Miami, with the SEC schedule+an improving FSU, gives them a very tough schedule every year.

But I have serious problems thinking Florida is scared to play Miami, I am sorry, but Florida is a perennial national title contender, Miami is just now finished rebuilding and on their way back up.
